Willowford

My personal little Mammoth-project.

The moment I had first read through the rules that Call of Cthulhu entails, I began to formulate this silent little idea in the back of my mind and after having completed a few of the investigations that came with the book said idea began to grow bigger and louder until I would eventually start writing things down.
A sandbox scenario in a small town.
Of course most of the beginner investigations from the rulebook were more or less based on a sandbox kind of playstyle and this surely would only grow more important as the investigations became more sophisticated but as November approached (together with NaNoWriMo) Willowford just seemingly wanted to burst out of my imagination and into the world.
So what followed was me writing a 52.000 word story about the events that take place in the hamlet set somewhere deep in the forests of Maine.
At the time I had already put together the town map, the general things I needed to know about the town inhabitants (70-ish people) and its dark secrets. I have also drawn 18 of the 20 building layouts I felt I needed which I could use, but I'm stuck on that part ever since.
The story I wrote during November is plotwise about the same as the investigation that players would be able to play through if they decided to play this investigation - both will be called "The Wailing Dark". In the story a young woman and three of her friends take the place of the investigators and follow the cinematic route passed all events and through to the end, whereas I imagine Willowford to be more an open playground for actual RPG play. It would consists of six acts - one of which not part of the story - that are loosely connected by timed triggers for them to take place. What happens between each act is entirely up to the players.
Of course this will put some strain on the Keepers (well... what does not I ask you!) but I am working on all the information each villager will have at most of the given times. Or rather... not have. As well as placement of crucial items and ofc red herrings. But as you can surely tell, this is quite a bit of work I have still ahead of me and so I must ask you to bear with me as I cannot share anything too specific just yet.
I hope that it will get done in due time and be a blast to play with for me and any who stumble upon this or any other place I might decide to make it public upon.
